Metro 2033 Redux (PC)
Action 26 August 2014
It was a little tough during The Game Awards to tell if this was post-apocalyptic or just taking place in a specific area that destroyed by an apocalyptic event. Either way, it looks great. Scavengers is a multi-player survival game by Midwinter Entertainment, a new studio in Seattle. Browse the newest, top selling and discounted Post-apocalyptic products on Steam.
A remastered edition of the popular survival horror first-person shooter, Metro 2033, developed primarily with the 8th-generation consoles in mind. The action takes place in the grim universe created by Dmitry Glukhovsky, adapted by 4A Games for the purposes of the game. The story of the Metro series revolves around a youngster named Artem and presents a post-apocalyptic vision of the world in which the humanity fights for survival after a nuclear apocalypse. Life goes on in the tunnels of the Moscow subway, as it continues to shelter the survivors from dangerous mutants. If not for the fact, that the mutant attacks become increasingly frequent. The player is sent to the central point of the subway system, called Polis, to warn its inhabitants about the emerging danger and ask for help in fighting it. The remastered edition is nearly identical to the original, and the changes it introduces involve mainly improved visuals. Moreover, the developers implemented two new game modes: Survival and Spartan.

Hi everyone, I am a big fan of survival and crafting games, preferably the very brutal kind, where you start with nothing at all and are left to fend for yourself. I am still looking for THE game to satisfy my survival game urges, though. I tried the Neo Scavenger online demo yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised and instantly addicted. I purchased it and I've put something like 8 hours into that game in 2 days, it's amazing. So, in hopes of getting even more awesome survival game recommendations and tips, I post this list of what I have personally found so far in my internet and gaming adventures. Maybe I have missed something!
I think the easiest way to describe what I like, personally, is to just set the mood;
You're sitting in a lonely cabin on a cold autumn night, listening to the rain hammering on the windows. You haven't seen a living person in weeks, except for the slaver/cannibal tribe you hid from last week while hiding in a bush.
You're feeling a bit cold and very hungry, but you're relieved that you have a dry place to stay for the night. You know how to build a tent and camp fire, how to hunt, scavenge and utilize what you find to create weapons and tools. You have some water with you that you picked up from a marsh, and you have some meat from a pig you killed earlier, but unfortunately no way to prepare it to kill off the harmful bacteria, because your matches are wet and you haven't got any kindle to start a fire.
Also, your leg is twisted so you can't really venture that far to scavenge anything from the woods outside, not to mention that it's pitch black and dangerous without a light.
So, my main key words are probably, in this order, immersion, loot, exploration, crafting, primary needs (hunger/thirst/health), base-building, atmosphere, discovery, stealth
I have googled my eyes out for the past few months to do research and look for games that I could enjoy, and I own a lot (if not all) of the big titles within survival/crafting/open world.
EXCELLENT:
DayZ mod (Origins (shoddy dev team, earning money from Dean 'Rocket' Hall's original DayZ mod work, but nevertheless a great take on the DayZ mod))/Epoch/Overwatch) [Huge world, lots of different weapons/loot, base-building/camping, PvP]
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Shadow of Chernobyl/Clear Sky/Call of Pripyat - with mods) [CoP with MISERY mod is probably the best survival experience I've had. Brutal FPS, no mercy, super atmosphere! These are the most immersive games I have ever played. VERY active community! Influenced by the book Roadside Picnic and/or the movie STALKER (1979)]
Neo Scavenger [Immense crafting system, open world, scavenging/looting, basic base-building/camping]
Project Zomboid (Early Access) [basic crafting, farming, base-building/camping, scavenging/looting]
Minecraft (with mods) [Minecraft, MINECRAFT, minecraft]
Rust (Early Access) [Base-building/camping, hunting, PvP]
The Long Dark (Early Access) [Scavenging/looting, harsh weather]
The Forest (Early Access) [Base-building/camping, scavenging/looting, hide from enemies]
Miasmata [Research, crafting, exploration]
Starbound (Early Access) [Decent 2D platformer with crafting and hunger, a space ship and several planets to explore]
Terraria [Nice little 2D platformer with crafting and exploration]
GOOD:
Banished [City building/management game]
Subnautica (Early Access) [Underwater survival game, pretty fun with some basic base building, crafting and a hunger system.]
Rust (Early Access) [Pretty good multiplayer survival game featuring base-building, hunting and crafting.]
Salt (added by /u/thinkforaminute) [A survival game with a pirate/sea theme. Explore a procedurally generated world of islands, hunt and craft items.]
Sir, You Are Being Hunted [FPS with survival elements]
Don't Starve [2D exploration/survival game]
Skyrim - (with mods) [Fifth installment of The Elder Scrolls Series, can be a survival game with the use of mods. Here is a list of survival mods compiled by /u/DirigibleBehemothaur]
Fallout 3 - (with mods) [FPS/3PS with exploration and crafting, can be a survival game with the use of mods]
Fallout: New Vegas - (Hardcore mode/with mods) [FPS/3PS with exploration and crafting, has an integrated survival mode (Hardcore Mode)]
7 Days to Die [Kind of like Minecraft, but with guns]
State of Decay [RPG-y/linear, squad control]
FarSky [Kind of like Minecraft, but under water]
Fallout (1, 2, Tactics) [Barely played them - Isometric post-apocalyptic RPGs]
METRO 2033 (Redux) / Metro: Last Light (Redux) [Very linear, but fantastic, post-apocalyptic atmosphere and immersion similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Based on the books by Dmitry Glukhovsky]
RAGE [FPS set in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Linear, lots of technical problems]
I Am Alive [Linear]
Darkwood (added by /u/StodgyAyatollah) [Nice atmosphere, dark and gritty. Horror-like.]
(TOO) EARLY ACCESS:
Beasts of Prey (DINOSAURS! Has potential, but is under-developed)
Planet Explorers (Has potential but is under-developed)
Pay Off DebtCost:$2.99The founder of originally created the app because she was tired of stressing out about how to pay her bills and stay on track with financial goals. Best debt payoff planner app. Since 2009, when the app was first launched, it’s become quite popular, and helps users create financial goals, like making a debt payment plan or taking a debt-free vacation. The nice thing is that you can even track personal loans to friends or family members, and create a custom plan to pay off all debts by prioritizing them in the order you choose. You can also record payments manually, and receive payment reminders to avoid late fees. The goal of this app is to create long-term financial habits that stick. As you can see, there are a lot of different repayment methods, strategies, and apps that can be used to track your debts.
Under the Ocean (2D platformer)
The Stomping Land (Development seems to have stalled. Removed from Steam)
NOT RECOMMENDED:
Fallen Earth (Cheap FPS/3PS MMO)
Nether (Final release very disappointing)
How to Survive (Linear, short-lived)
Dead Island / Dead Island Riptide (Linear/very repetitive)
ROGUELIKES:
I've tried getting into these but find them very hard due to extremely tough learning curves and/or confusing controls or other issues.:
UnReal World (A roguelike praised and mentioned in every survival game thread on the internet. There's a million hotkeys to remember and overall it's very confusing for a first-timer.)
Dwarf Fortress (Another roguelike I see praised everywhere but I really can not get into it because of the graphics/mechanics)
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (A post-apocalyptic roguelike with crafting, hunger, health systems and lots of different enemies and items. Very good!)
Wayward (Browser based, NES-like graphics, a little hard to get into)
[Insert Roguelike here..]
Some other games I heard of but I haven't personally played them:
Steam Post Apocalyptic Survival Games
Stranded / Stranded 2
Promising releases:
Survive the Nights [Looks awesome! Seems to be very feature packed.]
Life is Feudal: Your Own [Very promising release, lots of survival and crafting features]
Survarium [From some of the previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. devs, closed beta]
DayZ (standalone final release)
Beasts of Prey (final release)
Rimworld (added by /u/A-n-d-r-e-w)
Frozen State (added by /u/StodgyAyatollah)
